Three Ways to Care for a Mechanical Watch
Each service is scoped around a specific need — preventive, corrective, or restorative. We're glad to help you work out which fits your watch's current situation.
Back to HomeOur Method
How We Approach Every Watch
Before deciding which service to perform, we first understand what the watch is and what the owner expects from it.
Assessment
We examine the watch, document its condition, and discuss what you've noticed or what you're hoping to address.
Scope Agreement
We agree on which service applies and discuss the starting price and expected timeline before any work begins.
Careful Work
The service proceeds methodically. If anything unexpected appears, we contact you before adjusting the scope or cost.
Return & Record
Your watch is returned with a written service record covering what was found, what was done, and timing results.
Service One
Pressure & Seal Check
A focused service for watches worn near water or simply due for a seal review. The three main sealing points — crown, case-back, and crystal — are inspected and the gaskets renewed where needed. Water resistance is then tested to the watch's rated depth using a dedicated pressure tester.
After testing, we provide a clear written summary of what was found and guidance on safe everyday use. This service is particularly appropriate as preventive care — maintaining water resistance before it becomes a problem rather than after.
Process Overview
- 1External condition noted on arrival
- 2Case-back removed, existing gaskets inspected
- 3New gaskets fitted at crown, case-back, and crystal
- 4Pressure test to rated depth
- 5Written summary provided at collection
Process Overview
- 1Movement removed and fully disassembled
- 2All parts cleaned ultrasonically
- 3Balance and escapement inspected for wear
- 4Re-oiled with caliber-matched lubricants
- 5Timed on machine across multiple positions
- 6Gaskets renewed and water resistance tested
Service Two
Full Mechanical Service
A thorough overhaul for hand-wound and automatic movements showing reduced power reserve, irregular timekeeping, or simply long years without attention. The movement is fully disassembled, cleaned ultrasonically, inspected for wear, and reassembled with fresh lubricants throughout.
The balance and escapement — the parts most responsible for timekeeping accuracy — are given particular attention. Crown and pushers are checked; all gaskets are renewed. The reassembled movement is regulated on a timing machine across multiple positions. Turnaround is around three weeks.
Service Three
Collector's Restoration
A considered restoration for valued or vintage timepieces where the work goes beyond a standard overhaul. In addition to a complete mechanical service, we attend to the case finish, hands, and crystal — and coordinate any specialist dial work, taking care to keep the watch true to its era.
Every significant decision is made together with you. We photograph key stages of the work and provide progress notes. For pieces of lasting personal or collector importance, this service treats the watch as the object it is — not simply as something to be returned to function.
Process Overview
- 1Detailed assessment and photographic condition record
- 2Complete movement overhaul
- 3Case and bracelet treatment (discussed and agreed)
- 4Dial and hands assessment, specialist work if needed
- 5Final timing, testing, and full documentation

Standards
Shared Across All Services
Correct Lubricants
Every movement receives lubricants selected for that caliber — viscosity and quantity matched to the manufacturer's specification.
Written Records
A written service summary accompanies every completed job — what was done, what was found, and the timing result where applicable.
Secure Storage
Watches are held individually in padded cases when not being worked on. Business insurance covers items in our custody.
Timing Verification
After reassembly, we test on a multi-position timing machine, targeting accuracy within the original manufacturer's tolerance.
No Surprises
Nothing that affects cost or scope is decided unilaterally. We contact you before adjusting anything unexpected.
Pressure Testing
Seal work is always followed by a wet/dry pressure test confirming resistance has been restored to the watch's rated depth.
